Light plane crashes near runway at Essendon Airport

A lightweight aircraft has crashed at Melbourne's Essendon Airport this afternoon.
Authorities say the Cessna 172 Skyhawk flipped onto its roof close to runway 26 about 3.50pm.
An Essendon Fields spokesperson stated the pilot of the plane was protected, with no different passengers on board. 
Emergency providers are on scene offering help.
