'Godfather of Poker' and two-time world champion Doyle Brunson dies aged 89

Doyle Brunson, the person dubbed the ‘Godfather of Poker’, died on the age of 89 on Sunday, in keeping with his agent.

Tributes are flooding in for the two-time world champion and 10-time World Sequence of Poker winner, whose capability was second to none and can be remembered in his trademark cowboy hat.

Brunson was from the small city of Longworth, Texas. He died in Las Vegas, Nevada.

His agent, Brian Balsbaugh, posted a press release on Twitter from the household.

“It's with a heavy coronary heart we announce the passing of our father, Doyle Brunson,” the assertion learn.

“He was a beloved Christian man, husband, father and grandfather.

“We’ll have extra to say over the approaching days as we honour his legacy. Please hold Doyle and our household in your prayers. Might he relaxation in peace.”

Brunson, often known as “Texas Dolly,” captured world championships in 1976 and 1977 and was inducted into the Poker Corridor of Fame in 1988.

His 10 World Sequence of Poker tournaments leaves him second solely to Phil Hellmuth’s 16.

In 1979, he wrote a e-book known as “Tremendous System” - one of many first books to delve into poker technique which created a long-lasting affect and influenced many others into the sport.

5-time WSOP winner Scotty Nguyen tweeted that he “can’t consider today has come - you'll at all times be held excessive in our hearts, the person, the parable, the legend & THE GODFATHER of poker child!

“Mr Brunson, you made poker what it's child! Thanks for what you give to all of us child! RIP Mr Doyle Brunson THE GODFATHER OF POKER.”
