Fire breaks out on 16th floor of London tower block

Firefighters are battling a blaze at a block of flats in south London this morning. Eight hearth engines and round 80 personnel are on the incident in Surrey Lane, Battersea which noticed a hearth begin in a four-roomed flat on the sixteenth ground of the 21 storey flats.

A spokesperson for LFB stated: "London Hearth Brigade (LFB) had been referred to as out at 3.54am on Tuesday morning (April 25) and crews from Battersea, Chelsea, Clapham, Fulham, Lambeth and Wandsworth rushed to the scene.

"Eight hearth engines and round 80 firefighters had been referred to as to a hearth at a block of flats on Surrey Lane in Battersea.

Half of a four-roomed flat on the sixteenth ground of a 21 storey block of flats was destroyed by hearth. Hearth crews, carrying respiratory equipment, used hearth escape hoods to guide one girl and one little one to security on the sixteenth ground. They had been handled for smoke inhalation on scene by London Ambulance Service. One other two ladies and one little one on the twentieth ground had been additionally led to security by crews carrying respiratory equipment."

"The Brigade’s 999 Management officers gave important hearth survival steering to residents in flats on the sixteenth and twentieth flooring.

"Hearth Escape hoods present members of the general public with as much as quarter-hour safety from 4 of the primary hearth gases (carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen chloride and acrolein) and will be worn by aware or unconscious folks. If greater than quarter-hour safety is required then one other hood will be given to every wearer. They don't present oxygen however quickly filter poisonous smoke to make respiratory simpler.

"The Brigade was referred to as at 0354 and the fireplace was below management by 0508. Hearth crews from Battersea, Chelsea, Clapham, Fulham, Wandsworth and Lambeth hearth stations had been in attendance. The reason for the fireplace is below investigation."
