'We can't take everyone!' Minister fires back at Burley over 'staggering' migrant figures

Michele Donelan clashed with Kay Burley this morning over the UK's method to migrants. The Sky Information presenter requested the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Expertise concerning the Authorities's new small boats laws, which can bar individuals who enter the UK illegally from claiming asylum. Urgent Ms Donelan on the problem, Ms Burley stated: "It is not unlawful although, is it, to hunt asylum? It is unlawful to smuggle individuals into the UK. Should not the smugglers be those that you are going for?"

Ms Donelan stated the Authorities is introducing "proportionate" responses, saying: "After all, we wish to sort out felony gangs."

However she added: "We do must say it's not okay to journey right here illegally. In the event that they're travelling illegally, they should not be allowed to remain."

Pushing again at Ms Burley's line of questioning, Ms Donelan continued: "We can not take everyone – as a lot as we might like to. We simply can not. And we've to have a system that works and that is why we're bringing ahead this laws is why the Prime Minister has acted."

However Ms Burley hit again: "However once more, minister, it is not unlawful to hunt asylum. It is unlawful to smuggle individuals."

The Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Expertise instructed Sky: "I do not assume it is proper for individuals to journey throughout many protected international locations to get right here after which select to try to search asylum through unlawful routes, that merely can't be acceptable."

The brand new laws, set to be revealed as quickly as Tuesday, would make asylum claims inadmissible from those that journey to the UK on small boats.

Yesterday the Prime Minister vowed to finish to "immoral" unlawful migration, with Residence Secretary Suella Braverman saying: "sufficient is sufficient".
