BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) — President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva fired Brazil’s military chief Saturday amid considerations over threats to the nation’s democracy following the Jan. 8 rebellion within the capital by far-right protesters.
The official web site of the Brazilian armed forces stated Gen. Julio Cesar de Arruda had been eliminated as head of the military. He was changed by Gen. Tomás Miguel Ribeiro Paiva, who was head of the Southeast Army Command.
