A small aircraft crashed Monday in a neighborhood within the central Colombian metropolis of Medellín, killing eight individuals on board, airport authorities stated. No accidents had been instantly reported on the bottom.
The plane crashed after taking off from the Olaya Herrera Airport, Colombian aviation officers stated in an announcement. The victims had been recognized as six passengers and two crew members. It was not instantly clear if greater than eight individuals had been on the aircraft.
Video from the scene posted to social media confirmed smoldering ruins after the aircraft crash.
The precise reason for the crash has not but been decided. Medellín Mayor Daniel Quintero stated in an announcement that the plane skilled "an engine failure" throughout takeoff.
"Sadly, the pilot was not capable of hold the aircraft aloft and it crashed on this neighborhood," Quintero stated. Seven properties had been destroyed and 6 different buildings broken, he stated.
Firefighters had been working to douse flames amid scattered tiles and collapsed brick partitions.
The plane was touring to the western division of Chocó.
Medellin lies in a slender valley, surrounded by the Andes mountains.
In 2016, a aircraft carrying Brazil's Chapecoense soccer crew ran out of gas and crashed within the mountains close to the town, killing 71 of the 77 individuals on board, together with 16 gamers.
