Philadelphia Phillies minor league pitcher Corey Phelan has died on the age of 20 after "his brave battle with most cancers," the staff introduced from its participant growth Twitter account.
In a press release Thursday evening, the Phillies minor league director Preston Mattingly stated the staff is "extraordinarily saddened by the tragic passing of Corey Phelan."
"Corey's constructive presence and selflessness influenced everybody round him," he stated. "Whereas he was extremely passionate concerning the sport of baseball, his love for his household and his robust religion outdated every thing else."
Mattingly known as him a "particular individual."
"His smile lit up a room and everybody who got here in touch with him cherished the interplay," Mattingly stated. "His reminiscence will reside on, particularly with the Phillies group."
Phelan was a left-handed reduction pitcher from Greenlawn, New York. Phelan made 5 appearances for the Phillies' Florida Advanced League in 2021 and posted a 0.93 ERA, based on Baseball Reference. He signed with the Phillies in 2020 and known as it his "life lengthy dream" to a part of the staff. He was identified with Non-Hoodkin's lymphoma in April.
He visited the Phillies again in Could - a gathering that was organized by then-manager Joe Girardi and his workers, based on MLB. Phelan gave all members of the group a inexperienced bracelet.
"The child is a fighter and he's a robust child. He's mentally robust. He's powerful," Girardi stated then. "His complete household was right here. He spoke to us and it was fairly transferring."
