Crime scene declared after man dies at house fire in Melbourne's west

A person has died after being pulled from a big home fireplace in Melbourne's west.

Firefighters rushed to the single-storey home on Baird Avenue in Maidstone about 3.15am after a number of individuals reported seeing flames coming from the house.

The home was "ablaze" by the point firefighters arrived on scene and searched the home, discovering an unresponsive man inside.

Thirty firefighters have been on scene on the fireplace.(9)

He was handled by paramedics however died on the scene.

The fireplace took 50 minutes for 30 firefighters to carry it underneath management and prompted intensive injury to the home.

Police have dominated the property a criminal offense scene and are investigating the reason for the hearth with the assistance of an arson chemists and specialist fireplace investigators.
