Investigation underway after D.C. police K9 found dead in car

Authorities have launched an investigation after an explosives detection canine for the Metropolitan Police Division was discovered lifeless inside a police automobile in Washington, D.C., Monday. 

Police confirmed that late Monday morning, a handler discovered Rocket, a seven-year-old Malinois Shepherd, lifeless inside a parked police automobile.

The MPD "regrets to announce the passing of K9 Rocket, a very long time explosives detection canine assigned to our Particular Operations Division," police stated in a press release.

The reason for Rocket's dying is now below investigation.     

In response to police, all division K9 autos include a temperature monitoring and alarm system that prompts when the automobile's inside will get too sizzling. Police are inspecting the automobile in query to find out if the system malfunctioned. 

Temperatures in Washington, D.C., reached 85 levels Monday.
