Chicago mayor asks for donations, volunteers to help with immigrants bused from Texas

Chicago officers are asking the general public for volunteers and donations to assist immigrants being bused to the town from Texas, the place the state's GOP governor is waging a political battle President Joe Biden's immigration insurance policies.

A busload of about 50 immigrants arrived Sunday in Chicago, days after the arrival of the first busload of about 75.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot mentioned the town had not but heard from any Texas officers and urged Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to collaborate on extra humane therapy of the immigrants.

He has been busing migrants who're within the nation illegally from Texas to U.S. cities with Democratic mayors as a part of a method to share the inflow of people that cross into his border state. On Friday, Abbott mentioned in a tweet, "Operation Lone Star continues to fight Biden's harmful border disaster. To alleviate overwhelmed Texas communities, we have bussed over 7,600 migrants to DC, over 1,900 to NYC, & 95 migrants arrived in Chicago Wednesday."

"He tries to ship human beings, not cargo, not freight, however human beings throughout the nation to an unsure vacation spot," Lightfoot mentioned of the Texas governor. "He's manufacturing a human disaster and it is mindless to me."

Town of Chicago has arrange an internet site for members of the general public who wish to volunteer to assist the migrants or donate objects like clothes, books, diapers and extra.

Lightfoot mentioned a number of organizations had been already offering help.
