Red Hot Chili Peppers Dedicate VMAs Global Icon Award to Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins

The L.A. natives have been honored with the award by comedy duo Cheech & Chong after performing two songs in the course of the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.


The Crimson Sizzling Chili Peppers have been honored with the International Icon Award on the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.


Comedy duo Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong introduced the award to the Los Angeles natives, with the latter noting that the consideration “acknowledges artists who've left an indelible, endearing mark on the world and are simply as impactful as ever.”


Marin defined to the gang at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Heart that the band initially met as classmates at Fairfax Excessive College in Los Angeles. “They began gigging on the Sundown Strip,” stated Marin. “They infused L.A. punk with high-octane basslines and an electrical stage present like nothing now we have ever seen earlier than.”


The band, consisting of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and John Frusciante, then performed a two-song set consisting of “Black Summer season” from their 2022 album Limitless Love and “Can’t Cease” from their 2002 album By the Approach.


Kiedis started his acceptance speech by thanking Marin and Chong, calling them “two unhealthy mom … flip-flops,” then thanking his bandmates for “giving me a goal in my life for the final 40 years. I'd have been a free-floating catastrophe in area if not for these boys.”


Drummer Smith additionally devoted the award to his “brother” Taylor Hawkins, the late Foo Fighters drummer who died on the age of fifty in March 2022. “I dedicate this to Taylor and his household,” stated Smith. “I really like them, and I miss him day-after-day.”
