3 dead, 12 injured after falling nearly 200 feet while climbing volcano in Ecuador

Three mountaineers died and 12 had been injured after they fell whereas climbing Ecuador's Carihuairazo volcano, rescue providers stated Saturday.

"A 47-year-old lady and two males aged 45 and 50 died on this emergency," ECU911 rescue providers stated in a press release. "As a consequence of climate circumstances and dusk, it was not doable to evacuate the our bodies."

Six girls and 6 males, aged between 39 and 58, had been transferred to hospitals within the cities of Riobamba and Ambato. A few of the injured climbers had contusions and fractures; they had been evacuated by air, ECU911 stated.

The climbers had been trying to summit the central Andean volcano after they fell 60 meters (196 toes).

Carihuairazo, a 5,018-meter colossus in Tungurahua province, neighbors Chimborazo volcano -- the best peak within the nation at over 6,200 meters.

The three climbers who died had been all Ecuadorians, and work to recuperate their our bodies was scheduled to proceed Sunday.
