'I'm off to New York': John Barilaro allegedly told chief of staff he would have trade role made for him, inquiry hears

John Barilaro's former chief of employees claims the previous NSW deputy premier mentioned he would create the New York commerce function for himself to coincide together with his exit from parliament.
Mark Connell made a written submission to the parliamentary inquiry which is analyzing the appointment of Barilaro to the $500,000-a-year function, from which he has since withdrawn.
Connell claims the dialog befell in April 2019 when Barilaro was the NSW commerce minister.

He mentioned ministers accountable for commerce and funding, together with then treasurer and now Premier Dominic Perrottet and Funding Minister Stuart Ayres, held a gathering.
"After this assembly, Mr Barilaro got here on to my workplace," Connell wrote within the assertion.
"He mentioned, 'I've simply come from a gathering with Dom and Stuart relating to commerce and we'll carry again the Agent Basic in London in addition to a bunch of different postings world wide'.
"He then acknowledged, 'That is it; that is the job for once I get the f--- out of this place'.
"I responded to Mr Barilaro and acknowledged, 'However John, the Agent Basic function can be stuffed properly earlier than you retire from this place.'"
Connell claimed Barilaro mentioned: "I do not need to go to London, f--- that, I am off to New York.'"
"I responded and acknowledged, 'Our present workplace and employees are in California,'" Connell wrote.
Connell claims Barilaro responded with, "I am going to get them to place one in New York, that is the place I am off to."
Connell served as Barilaro's chief of employees from April 2017 to December 2019.

Barilaro has rejected the claims.
In an announcement, Barilaro mentioned: "The dialog he has recalled is fictitious, false and solely serves as a reminder as to why we needed to half methods.
"If this inquiry is real in its intent to grasp the method and the reality by which I used to be appointed, then certainly I'd be referred to as as much as present this element instantly.

Perrottet, in an announcement, mentioned he, Barilaro and Ayres had "quite a few discussions in 2019" relating to the institution of World NSW.

Barilaro withdrew from the New York commerce commissioner function earlier this month, claiming it was "not tenable" as a result of quantity of media consideration.
