The actress posted a tweet earlier within the week that included a photograph of officers paying tribute to one in every of their very own.

Susan Sarandon is apologizing after likening the officers remembering slain NYPD Detective Jason Rivera to fascists.
“I deeply remorse the meme I not too long ago shared on Twitter that included Officer Jason Rivera’s funeral,” the Oscar winner tweeted Friday. “I reacted shortly to the image with out connecting it to a police funeral and I notice now how insensitive and deeply disrespectful it was to make that time at the moment. I sincerely apologize to the household of Officers Rivera and [Wilbert] Mora for inflicting extra ache throughout their time of grieving.”
On Tuesday, Sarandon shared a tweet that podcaster Danny Haiphong had posted displaying 1000's of officers gathering for Rivera’s funeral, which passed off on Fifth Ave. in New York Metropolis on Jan. 28. “I’m gonna inform my children that is what fascism seems like,” Haiphong wrote in his submit.
In sharing the tweet, Sarandon added the message, “So, if all these cops weren’t wanted for CRIME that day, doesn’t that imply they aren’t wanted ANY day?” Sarandon’s submit has since been deleted.
NYPD officers Rivera and Mora died after they had been shot whereas responding to a home disturbance name on Jan. 21. Mora’s funeral was held in NYC on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the Police Benevolent Affiliation of the Metropolis of New York condemned Sarandon’s submit by tweeting, “That is what privilege seems like: a rich actress, protected in her bubble, mocking heroes & making gentle of the disaster that cops are battling alongside our communities. NYC is uniting to cease the violence — @SusanSarandon resides on a distinct planet.”
