A 14-year veteran of the Huntington Seaside Police Division was mourned Sunday after he was killed in a helicopter crash on Saturday night time. One other officer was injured.
Dive groups have been within the water all day looking for clues about what induced the helicopter to crash. Residence safety video captured the police helicopter spinning uncontrolled, hitting the water and nearly immediately sinking in Newport Seaside.
A frantic rescue started in minutes, with locals, firefighters and lifeguards attempting to save lots of the 2 officers who have been trapped underwater.
One officer made it out — however officer Nicholas Vella didn't. The opposite officer, who's 50-years outdated, has been launched from the hospital.
In honor of Vella, first responders led a procession together with his casket draped in an American flag.
Hours earlier, a helicopter owned by a personal aviation service plunged into the water in Miami Seaside, coming dangerously near the crowds on shore. Two of the three individuals overseas have been injured and hospitalized.
