Queensland has recorded 2266 new COVID-19 cases, prompting the introduction of an indoor face mask mandate to curb growing infections.
While a slight drop compared to 3118 the day before, the decline can be attributed to a change in the way the Sunshine State reports new cases.
From January 1, cases will be reported over a 24 hour period from 7pm.
To encompass this change, today's numbers were measured over a 12-hour period of 7am to 7pm.
Of the new cases, 80 are in hospital and one patient is in ICU.
In a bid to curb the spread of the virus, an indoor mask mandate will be introduced from 1 am tomorrow.
Coverings must be worn in in workplaces, pubs, clubs and cafes, stadiums and medical waiting rooms.
"The Chief Health Officer has ordered masks be worn indoors everywhere except in the family home and workplaces where it is unsafe," Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk wrote on Twitter.
