Dramatic footage shows violent tides sweeping a large shipping container across a Gold Coast beach, as dangerous surf caused by ex-cyclone Seth causes destruction on the east coast.
A huge wave swept the shipping container into the surf at Currumbin, on the Gold Coast, with it seen floating towards the main street of the beach.
Kegs of beer and other debris roll speedily through the surf, as the abnormally large and rough tide creeps dangerously close to the shore line, and surrounding houses.
The free-floating shipping container is just one in several dramatic tidal events, as beaches are closed on Gold Coast, other parts of Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Several people, and children have already been rescued from the dangerous surf, with dangerous conditions expected to continue this week.
Lifeguards have warned residents to stay out of the dangerous waters.
"As expected the swell did increase today it's large and powerful, it's really unstable," lifeguard Luke Ingwersen said.
"Coming in they have a lot of power and they can knock you off your feet quite easily and drag you into deeper water so it's tempting but you just got to stay out of the water."
