A man and a woman were rescued after being stranded four hours in waters at Mandurah at 2am on Monday.
A 26-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man went crabbing in a group of 15 at Collins Pool in Herron in Western Australia about 9pm on Sunday.
But by midnight the pair hadn't been seen, sparking a large-scale search.
Police Air Wing started searching from the sky, while the Peel water police team scanned the estuary for any sign of the two.
Police eventually found the pair huddled together in chest-deep water.
"It's very serious. Four hours in the water in the middle of the night is extremely serious," Sergeant Troy Pillage from Peel Water Police said.
"We reversed up to them. They didn't seem to want to move around in the water."
The two had waded out and became disorientated, which led to them getting stuck in a hole, according to the police.
They were fully clothed and unable to swim because they had spent hours clinging to their crab box.
"There was a 24-year-old female who was in good condition and a 68-year-old male who was cramping around the legs. He couldn't help himself up onto the police boat," Sergeant Pillage said.
The pair were treated by paramedics and had not sustained any injuries.
Police said they get calls to the Collins Pool in Herron multiple times a year. They're urging anyone going out into the waters to have a life jacket on and to know how they are going to make their way back out.
