Though he already owns a multimillion-dollar home in L.A.’s Sherman Oaks neighborhood, records reveal that animated sitcom creator extraordinaire Justin Roiland (“Rick and Morty,” “Solar Opposites,” “Koala Man”) has paid another $2 million for a Northern California estate. Tucked away in the somewhat unlikely and semi-rural/agricultural town of Ripon, Calif., the Roiland pad is one of the largest and priciest residential properties in the area, spanning just over 10 flat acres with almond tree groves surrounding a large house.
It may seem odd that a busy Hollywood industry player would want a home in the mostly unheralded town of Ripon, which lies about 80 miles due east of San Francisco and halfway between the larger cities of Manteca and Modesto. But Roiland is an area native, having been born and raised in Manteca and a former student at Modesto Junior College, circa 1999. And with a budding second career as an NFT artist — his first collection generated nearly $1.7 million in revenue — it seems logical that the local boy made good would seek out a lavish second home near his childhood stomping grounds.
A long driveway leads past hundreds of thirsty almond trees on its way to the main house, which is set well back from the road and was custom built by the non-famous sellers in 2005. Vaguely country French chateau in architectural bent, the mansion-sized structure includes five bedrooms and four baths in more than 6,000 square feet of living space.
Inside, an arched and hand-carved front door opens into a rotunda entry flaunting double staircases. There are both marble and maple floors, and fireplaces warm both the formal dining and family rooms. Slabs of dark granite and high-end stainless appliances fill the kitchen; also downstairs are a mud room, large office and a multipurpose bonus room that currently does double-duty as a combo media room/gym. The master suite is on the ground level and offers its own private fireplace and built-in soaking tub. The four guest bedrooms are all located upstairs and share two bathrooms.
Other nifty amenities include attached garaging for four cars — there’s a three-car garage out front and a separate one-car unit tucked off to the side — a vast motorcourt with parking for dozens more, and a partially landscaped yard with a grassy lawn area and several mature olive trees; the 500+ almond trees are fed by their own “micro sprinklers,” per a prior listing. While the property does not currently have a swimming pool, there’s plenty of room for a whole waterpark plus a full-size sports court to boot, should Roiland desire them.
